Everyone at Coherent Software was saddened to hear of the recent death 
of well-known genealogist Nick Vine Hall. Our condolences to his family.

Those who have been watching our web site or the Grok Genealogy blog 
will already know that this new Digger CD-ROM was recently released. It 
retails for $231, and is of course available from Coherent Software.


South Australian Death Registrations 1916-1972
==============================================
This new CD-ROM was released just over a week ago. Once again, those 
watching our web site or the Grok Genealogy blog will already know about 
it. It retails for $220, and naturally is available from Coherent Software.

For some reason the registration system on this CD has generated some 
unfounded rumours. The registration system is exactly the same as that 
included on every other new Digger title released this year. You can 
make a backup copy. In fact we recommend you do. The rights you have 
according to law are not changed in any way by the inclusion of this 
registration system. Should you replace or upgrade your computer, you 
can install the CD on the new computer, just as you always could. The 
only significant change is that you will need to keep safe the CD Key (a 
bunch of letters and numbers) that comes with your CD, as you will need 
it during the re-install process.


Digger 4.1.4
============
There is a bug in Digger 4.1.3 and 4.1.2 that will affect approximately 
1 in every 256 users. Version 4.1.4, available for download from the 
official Digger download site at www.macbeth.com.au/digger/ fixes that 
problem.

If you have experienced no problems, then you are probably one of the 
255 in 256 people, and there is no need to download the update unless 
you want to. However if you have experienced any problems, please 
download and install this new version. Should you continue to experience 
any problems, contact technical support.


Reasons for Registration System
===============================
There are two primary reasons Digger now has a compulsory registration 
system.

1. Too many people have been tricked into paying good money for what 
they thought was a legitimate second-hand Digger CD, only to find it was 
an illegal CDR.

2. Some data/copyright owners are aware of the high level of piracy, and 
are unwilling to publish any data unless there is some form of protection.

We hope that this registration system will offer some level of 
protection for both copyright holders, so they will agree to release 
their data for legitimate use by all of us, and for users, so they will 
be less likely to pay hundreds of dollars for an illegal CDR. We also 
hope it will provide minimal inconvenience to legitimate users.


Releases between now and Christmas
==================================
Unfortunately this is a short section. We do not know of anything that 
is likely to be released between now and Christmas. The latest Tasmanian 
and South Australian indexes are it. Still, I suppose we shouldn't be 
greedy.


Grok Genealogy Blog
===================
The Grok Genealogy Blog, currently at grok-genealogy.blogspot.com, is 
developing into an excellent source for timely announcements about new 
products, and tips on researching. Those who subscribe to RSS feeds will 
be pleased to know that the Grok Genealogy Blog has an RSS feed.

The Blog does not in any way replace this newsletter, although the 
content will often overlap. However the newsletter involves much more 
work to create and circulate, and hence cannot be as timely.
